It was built in the 13th century to defense against the Vikings. Nowadays, EileanDonanCastle is one of Scotland’s most famous places. It is most likely that it was named after Donan Bishop who arrived in Scotland in the 6th century. The castle stands on an island surrounded by the magnificent landscape of the Scottish Highland. The fort was built at least four times and for about 200 years (between the 18th and the 20th centuries) literally ruined. It was reopened in 1932 and since then thousands of travelers have visited from all over the world.
