The Angelcatle was originally built between 135 and 139 as a tomb of Emperor Hadrian, after which it was a burial place for the Emperors for a long time. Angelcastle’s main building is a rectangular section of 84 m in length, with a 60 m diameter monumental cylinder. Below the cylinder, we find the tombs. They later converted the mausoleum to a military fortress and became a central fortress of the walls of the Aurelian Emperor. There were so many battles that the inhabitants of Rome attempted to break down in 1379: fortunately only marble coverings were sacrificed. There was time when it was used as a prison. Nowadays it is a museum, you can see the ancient spiral passage, the emperor’s former cemetery halls, and you can see a collection of weapons in the museum as well as an exhibition displaying the history of the building.
